…to China. The LiDAR technology (abbreviation for light detection and ranging) from our customer Ibeo is an important component for the safe autonomous navigation of all types of vehicles. Many experts are already predicting that the first roads with Robo cars will be built in China. We are therefore particularly pleased with the news that we have just announced. China’s largest SUV manufacturer Great Wall Motor relies on LiDAR technology from Ibeo in Hamburg for its premium brand WEY. The vehicles are equipped for autonomous driving in levels L3 and L4.
Ibeo is currently developing a solid-state scanner as the next LiDAR generation. The current LiDAR sensors work with mechanically moving mirrors and can therefore already detect objects in front of the vehicle at a distance of up to 200 metres. The LiDAR sensor ibeoNEXT does completely without moving parts and instead relies on a pure semiconductor solution. Due to the omission of mechanical components, solid-state scanners are not only smaller, more robust and thus more reliable in the long term, they also score with a high resolution and a large vertical “field of view”.
